Spreader

A spreader is a telescopic, metal frame for lifting containers with gantry cranes, straddle carriers, transtainers, reach-stackers or forklift trucks. If the containers vary in length (the most common international lengths are twenty and forty feet), the metal frame can be hydraulically extended until the desired length is reached. An oval conic pin sits on each corner of the frame. By turning that pin 90 degrees when inserting it in the relevant opening (the corner post) on the container, the container can be lifted.
