Delta surcharge

The Port of Rotterdam extends from the city of Rotterdam to the tip of Maasvlakte. The Delta terminal at Maasvlakte was constructed during the nineties of the previous century, after it had emerged that the old terminal in the city was no longer capable of serving larger vessels. As the container transport tariffs are based on the city of Rotterdam, the delta surcharge was introduced to cover the extra transport distance, which is 45 km per single trip.
