Platform wants to discharge gas containers more safely in the Netherlands

On the initiative of trade and industry and labour union FNV the Platform Gas in Containers was founded in the Netherlands. The platform aims on the safety of employees. Gas is used in containers to avoid vermin and hazardous insects. Unfortunately opening these gas containers can lead to dangerous situations for employees. It appears that some gassed products evaporate in the containers during the trip or even after opening the container.

According to the platform there is no clarity about the risks, procedures and methods of measurements during opening and discharging containers. Investigations regarding alternatives for using gasses in containers are made. The platforms pleads for a European approach to get the problem at the source. At this moment a free of gas declaration is given after degassing the container.(Source: NT)
