Dutch transport sector recovers slowly but steady

The Dutch transport & logistics shows a certain sign of recovery in the last quarter of 2009. This recovery follows from the rising import and export, and the industrial production. The peak level, as in 2007/2008, is still far out if sight. This is said by ABN AMRO in its SectorScope.

During 2009 the transport and logistics related companies lost 10% of their turnover. In the last quarter of 2009 some modes succeeded in getting back into the black figures. Air freight showed the first signs of recovery. Economists think that despite hardly improved rates, air freight started ‘a long way up.’ Opposite of that, barging and road transport will cope overcapacity.

The Germany economy shows a important increase this year; export + 6,3% and import + 5,1%. This is a good sign for the Dutch ports and can also mean recovery for rail transport and barging. (source NT)
