Widest ship ever without problems through lock in Terneuzen

The bulkcarrier Eptalofos has left the sea lock in Terneuzen without any problems, earlier this month. With 36,98 meter, the Eptafalos is the widest ship that sails through the lock. The previous maximum was 34 meter. The ship sailed into the lock, assisted by some feeders, to Gent to discharge 70.000 tons iron ore ate Arcelor Mittal. It is in the interest of the port Gent and specially for Arcelor Mittal to broad the lock for larger vessels.

Before sailing through the lock, the Eptafolos had to be lightered by a LASH vessel. The floating cranes discharged 17.000 tons iron ore into pushed barges to reduce the draft to the maximum of 12,5 meters.
