Port of Amsterdam collects environmental award
of Amsterdam has been awarded the Silver Port
Environment Award 2013 at the World Ports Conference in Los Angeles. This is formal international recognition of the fact that the Port
of Amsterdam is one of the most sustainable ports in the world.
The World Ports Conference is organised by the International Association of Ports and Harbors, with the recent event in Los Angeles being its 28th edition. The Port
of Amsterdam received its award because they set up a fund for sustainability and innovation (DIHA) in 2009. To date, this fund has paid out four million euros to help companies finance studies and projects that contribute to sustainable development of the area. This means having clean air, clean water, clean soil, a safer environment, less inconvenience for the surrounding area (noise, dust, risk and smell) and less discharge of carbon dioxide (CO2).
Working towards a better future
of Amsterdam’s President and CEO, Dertje Meijer, commented: “We are proud of this international recognition for our sustainability and innovation fund. We work closely together with port-located companies to create a more sustainable and innovative port.
This award is inspiration for us to take these efforts even further.”
