New regulation import Argentina

Due to new regulation from Argentinian authority (Secretary of Industry and Trade) every importer must perform a pre-loading declaration of goods to be imported. This regulation is called DJAI (Declaracion Jurada Anticipada de Importacionand will be implemented as from February 1st, 2012.

The DJAI is a number required by Argentinian customs to the importers, NOT to the carrier. DJAI is a permission given by the Government to the importers, that identify the shipment in order to be able to import the cargo.

If a shipment is not accompanietd by the DJAI and yet arrives to Argentina, there are two different scenarios:

1 - The government accepts the shipment and the goods can be imported.
2- The government rejects the shipment. In this case the shipper and consignee are fully responsible for all the extra cost this operation implies.

The carrier is not responsible if the consignee or shipper cannot present the DJAI at the time the cargo arrives.
