The Netherlands most 'global' country

The Netherlands is the most 'global' country in the world. It maintains the most intensive contacts with other countries. This appeared in the so-called Global Connectedness Index that DHL has had drawn up. This is a list of 125 countries ranked according to the number of contacts countries maintain with the rest of the world in the fields of trade, services and finance and on personal levels. The Netherlands is in first place, just before Singapore and Ireland. In other lists which are ranked more according to infrastructure, such as the World Economic Forum list, the Netherlands also comes out top.
The study was conducted by economist Pankaj Ghemawat, Professor of World-wide Strategy at the IESE Business School in Barcelona. An analysis was made of the economic links that all countries have with the rest of the world. This provided a picture of the way in which countries are integrated in the world economy. A link was also made with each country's prosperity level. From this it appeared that, in principle, high levels of economic integration are also conducive to prosperity. The study also showed that there is a lot of potential for further growth in the global gross domestic product, considering that very many countries are still positioned far behind the top group.
