Port Authority starts biofuels trial with harbour patrol boats

This month the Port of Rotterdam Authority - in cooperation with the Rotterdam Climate Initiative – launched a trial involving the use of biofuels to fuel port patrol boats. This concerns HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) renewable diesel, a high-grade alternative to regular diesel oil (also known as EN590), supplied by Neste Oil. The aim is to gain insight into the technical as well as the climate-related and environmental aspects associated with the use of HVO in patrol boats.

The trial will take place at the RPA 12 in the next three months. If the experiment is a success, a more large-scale trial will be held involving several Port Authority patrol boats during a period of one year.

The use of biofuels in port patrol boats is in keeping with the aims of the Port Authority and the Rotterdam Climate Initiative towards sustainable operations and the clean development of the port of Rotterdam in particular. (port of Rotterdam)
