Expansion of the windmills in the port of Antwerp

The Communal Port Authority Antwerp and the Society “Scheldt Left Bank” have decided to work together on an area covering plan for wind turbines on the left bank. In consultation with the port users the strategic partners want to optimize the renewable energy potential of the port area.

On the right bank, the execution of a similar plan has already been launched. That now also across the river Scheldt a search for appropriate areas for windmills has started, is in line with the recommendations of the Flemisch WindEnergy Association and Flemish minister of Energy Freya Van den Bossche, who have recently indicated the Antwerp port area as prime location for large-scale windmill projects.

In consultation with the involved administrators, the Port Authority and the Society will assemble all relevant factors of influence and discuss this with the port users and other stakeholders. The first results will be announced in June. (Source: www.lloyd.be)
