MSC Adds Asia-Mediterranean Peak Surcharge
Mediterranean Shipping Company imposed a peak-season surcharge on westbound shipments from Asia to all Mediterranean destinations, starting Sept. 5.The world’s second-largest container line joins other major ocean carriers in seeking rate restoration on Asia-Europe-Mediterranean trade lanes. The planned surcharge will be $225 per 20-foot container.
MSC India said the surcharge will apply to cargo moving from Asia to East/West Mediterranean, North/West Africa, and the Adriatic and Black Sea region.
The move comes as Middle East-based United Arab Shipping Company issued a similar surcharge notice on the same trade routes, which is slated to take effect Sept. 1.
Other rate increases slated for Sept. 1 on Asia-Europe trades include: $275 per TEU by Orient Overseas Container Line; $250 per TEU by Maersk Line; and $225 per TEU by Zim Integrated Shipping Services.(JOCsailings)
