Another surcharge on cargo bound for Iran

Hapag-Lloyd the latest shipping line to impose congestion charge on containers from Asia and Oceana

Hapag-Lloyd is to implement a port congestion surcharge on all containerised cargo moving from Asia and Oceania to Bandar Abbas in Iran.

From 1 June, the line will implement a surcharge of US$100 per teu.

Hapag-Lloyd said it would keep its customers “informed about the duration of this surcharge and the development of the port situation in Bandar Abbas”.

It said the situation at the port had become increasingly worse over the past few months, prompting it to apply the surcharge to offset additional costs.

The news came after Evergreen announced plans to implement surcharges of $100 per teu on cargo travelling from the Far East (excluding Japan) to Bandar Abbas. (source: IFW)
