Santos recorded 22% growth

Operation of container reached 432,795 TEUs.

The slowing of the flow of sugar and soybeans, due to weather setbacks, it was not enough to halt the growth of the Port of Santos. In the first two months of this year, the complex increased by 0.7%, driven by rising imports, priced at 20.9% in two months and 22.4% in the month.

The operation of containers has increased by 22% over the same period in 2010, reaching 432,795 TEUs (equivalent units of container 20 feet) compared to 354,699 for the year Thy past. Exports grew by 21.4% and imports by 21.6%, 84% of total long-distance drive.

With regard to the loads most downloaded in Santos, coal, fertilizer and sulfur, respectively, are the most popular site. Together they totaled 1.5 million tons, an increase of 117% until February.

The reduction in ship operations soy and sugar at the port of Santos (due to climatic conditions that compromised production by delayed maturation of the cane) was essential for the 2.2% fall in the movement for the month of February. The export cargo fell by 10.3%, strongly influenced by the 25.6% reduction in shipments of sugar (the product of the busiest port with 1,263,725 tons) and 43.1% of the soy complex.

The two-month period recorded a total of 954 dockings, 58 more than the same period last year with an average of 15,235 tons per vessel, excluding cruise ships and several boats. The accumulated trade balance, Santos grew 26.89% to total $ 15.1 billion. Exports accounted for $ 7.3 billion of that total, an increase of 23.72%. Imports participated with U.S. $ 7.8 billion and growth of 27.86%.
