Itajaí Port: Handling complex sets record in October

Cumulative total for the month reached 777,708 TEUs.
The Port of Itajai new record of moving in October, surpassing the 693,590 TEUs (equivalent to a container measuring 20 feet) recorded in 2008. The amount accumulated in the complex through October reached 777,708 TEUs.

Of the total brought forward to Portonave accounted for 468,520 TEUs, an increase of 53% over the previous year, while the APM Terminals handled 307,183 TEUs, a result 94% higher than 2009.

To the superintendent of the port, Ayres Antonio dos Santos Junior, "the numbers recorded in the first ten months of this year point to an excellent performance in 2010, the year that we have a cargo handling approximately one million TEUs."

In tonnage, the cargo activity in the complex corresponds to 8,137,646 tonnes, compared to 4,631,537 tons over the same period the previous year, and 54% of the loads are exports, imports and 46%.

In October, it was also the birthplace of the second delivery, rebuilt after the floods of 2008 with the help of SEP (Secretariat of Ports), through an investment of $ 350 million. Moreover, Itajaí is included in the NDP (National Dredging Program) of SEP, with resources from the PAC (Growth Acceleration Program), leaving the channel complex with a capacity of 14 meters.
