Colombia becomes 32nd country to adopt paperless air cargo

Colombia became the 32nd e-freight country to implement an e-freight paper-free cargo service on 31 October at Bogota El Dorado International Airport.

E-freight is one of the International Air Transport Association' s (IATA' s) Simplifying the Business projects, that aim to improve service and cut costs to the air cargo industry by eliminating the need to send paper documents with air cargo shipments.

The initiative involves customs authorities, carriers, freight forwarders, ground handlers and shippers.

The Colombian e-freight implementation team was led by LAN Colombia Cargo and Iberia Airlines in co-operation with Colombian Customs and aviation authority Aeronáutica Civil and stakeholders across the supply chain, including local orwarders DHL Global Forwarding, and Translago.

IATA aims to build on the success at Bogota Airport and implement e-freight export and import in all airports, airlines and forwarders in Colombia. (source: IFW)
