Rio Grande exceeds 19 million tonnes
Imports rose by 31.5%. The Port of Rio Grande moved 19,065,147 tons in the first eight months of 2010, against 17,484,811 tons obtained in the same period last year. Growth was noted that the landings rose by 31.5%, accounting for 6,757,989 tonnes. Already shipments remained stable with 12,307,158 tons. In all areas the port was an increase. The general cargo grew by 12.4% (5,084,605 tonnes). The dry bulk registered increases of 9.3% (11,530 tonnes) and net of 1.4% (2,450,541 tonnes).
Shipments of cereals remained stable with 7.2 million tons. The landings were aggregated loads such as barley (26 279 tonnes) and maize (9,343 tons), while last year there has been no movement of such goods. The decline was felt in the unloading of soybeans (-17.1%) and rice (-86.4%).
The operations of containers also closed higher with 434 721 TEU' s (+5%). The movement of vessels was another sector that grew, reaching 2160 units (+3.7%). In this sector stood out cabotage which saw an increase of 26.9% (367 units) and the inland, which had increased by 4.4% (867 units). Only sea-going vessels fell, down 3.8%, gaining 926 units.
