What does Stability mean?
Agribusiness exports hit record in August
Brazilian agribusiness exports recorded last month the best result for the months of August. With $ 7.305 billion in sales, surpassed by 8% the previous record reached in 2008. Compared to the same month in 2009 (under the impact of financial crisis), the growth was 23.3%. Imports have increased from 40% and totaled U.S. $ 1.095 billion, leaving the balance of trade in August with a surplus of U.S. $ 6.210 billion. Data from the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), compiled by Map (Ministry of Agriculture), indicate the sectors that increased exports: sugar cane (73.8%), meat (23.7%) of forest products (37.7%), coffee (41.9%) and cereals, flours and preparations (136.3%).
According to the map, the highlight was the amount of sugar shipped overseas, which jumped from 2.1 million tonnes in August 2009 to 3.2 million last month.
Cumulatively through the first eight months of the year, agribusiness exports increased by 13.6% over the period January-August 2009, reaching U.S. $ 49.628 billion. Imports grew 37.5% to $ 8.375 billion. The account balance by the end of August was $ 41.252 billion. (Source: AgĂȘncia Brazil)
