Restriction of reefer imports to Vietnam

In connection with the recent severe congestion of import reefer containers in Haiphong and in an effort to enhance the control of temporarily imported frozen products to Vietnam for further re-export as well at to protect the local customer's health and interest, the Prime Minister and the General Department of Customs of Vietnam has issued new rules dated on 22 July 2010, which include the following relevant main contents:

- suspend import of all kind of frozen poultry and cattle offal
- apply strict quarantine and veterinary inspection of all imported frozen poultry and cattle and its products prior to custom clearance. Goods can only be customs cleared provided the veterinary inspection is passed
- goods will be settled as per the clause 45 of the Vietnam Customs Law if reefer import container idling in the port terminals are not claimed within 90 days. Cargoes can be confiscated and auctioned.

We therefore kindly ask you to provide the followin information for verification at booking stage:
- written confirmation from the cargo receiver in Vietnam to clear the cargo within 2 days after arrival at destination in Vietnam
- Physical address, contact person with telephone number and e-mail address of the cargo received in Vietnam
- The exact detailed commodity name for poultry and cattle reefer shipments (e.g. frozen chicken wings, chicken feet, etc) . A general name as such as frozen meat, frozen food or alike will not be accepted. (source: Hapag Lloyd)
