Brazil is the fifth most competitive nation
Currently, the Brazilian industry is the fifth most competitive among 26 countries surveyed, behind China, India, South Korea and the United States, according to the report of Deloitte. Other emerging countries also must win position, while developed fall. Mexico must rise from 7 to 6; South Africa, from 22 to 19, and Argentina, from 25 to 24. The U.S. tend to drop from 4th to 5th, the United Kingdom from 17 to 20; and Italy, from 21 to 22.
The study notes that the industrialization of Brazil began in the form of export substitution, subsequently developed with government investment in commodities and industries such as aviation and received a large volume of foreign capital in segments such as automotive and chemical.
Moreover, the study says, Brazil is "one of the few countries with a natural resource base coupled with a relatively sophisticated infrastructure of research in promising sectors such as biofuels, putting the country in a unique position, especially if you can grow green ".
The fact that Brazil host the 2014 World Cup and the Olympics in 2016 should also contribute to the competitiveness of the country, according to research by attracting foreign investment.
The study, titled Global Competitiveness Index Manufacturer, calculates a competitiveness index to rank countries. The factors assessed are: innovation by employees, cost of labor and materials, energy costs, charging system, quality of physical infrastructure, government investment in industry and innovation, the regulatory system, supply chain, the dynamics of local businesses and quality and availability of health care.
The criterion "innovation by staff" was considered by Deloitte most important to classify the competitiveness of countries.
