Port complex leads Brazilian imports of cotton
The Port of Itajai received 38% of the cotton consumed by the Brazilian textile industry between January and April, a total of 17 865 tonnes of cotton and derived products in the first quarter of this year. According to data from Secex (Foreign Trade Secretariat) and MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade), this interval the port complex has accumulated only U.S. $ 56.112 million in imports in the segment, leading the disposal of the product in Brazilian ports in the quarter. The ports of Santos, and Suape Pecém occupy the second, third and fourth position in the ranking.
The statistics indicate that India is the largest exporter of cotton to market Itajai, with $ 43.833 million, accounting for 78.12% share of the landings of the products by the port complex. China accounts for share of 14.62% - totaling U.S. $ 8.204 million - and Taiwan by 1.47% (total U.S. $ 8.250 million).
